Medical Services
We are a full-service hospital with several veterinarians who take a collaborative
approach to caring for your pet. Our doctors are assisted by a team of highly trained,
knowledgeable, and compassionate individuals who excel at providing you and your pet with the highest quality of care.
Routine Care
Like infants, puppies and kittens require a series of monthly health exams during the first
few months of their lives. Our comprehensive puppy and kitten visits include a physical
exam to evaluate development., Parasitic disease screening and treatment are done and
vaccinations are given. Year-round preventative medication for fleas, ticks,
and heartworm parasites is begun. At about 6 months of age, we suggest spaying or neutering
and microchipping your pet. For adult pets, we recommend a yearly wellness visit consisting of a comprehensive
physical exam, dental health evaluation, vaccinations, intestinal parasite evaluation, and,
for dogs, screening for exposure to Lyme disease, heartworm disease, and other diseases. We recommend more thorough screening for older dogs and cats, as older animals can suffer from a
variety of illnesses, such as kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, and arthritis. The key to
managing these conditions is early detection and treatment. We can perform blood and
urine tests to detect diseases in their earliest stages, allowing your pet to enjoy the longest
and healthiest life possible.
Internal and External Parasite Control
In addition to yearly testing for a variety of internal and external parasites such as fleas,
ticks, and heartworm, we recommend year-round monthly prevention for the most
common parasites. We offer a variety of products such as Frontline, Revolution,
Program, Sentinel, and Preventic tick collars to make sure that your pet stays healthy and
free of parasites.
Diagnostics
To diagnose and treat any health problems your pet may develop, our facility is equipped
with a full range of diagnostic tools. These tools include radiology, ultrasonography,
blood pressure monitoring, electrocardiography, and in-house laboratory services. For
advanced testing, IDEXX laboratories provide
our veterinarians with top-quality diagnostic support, information, and
pathology specialist consulting expertise. Board-certified specialists in radiology,
ultrasonography, and surgery are also available to aid our veterinarians in the expert
care of your pet.
Surgery
Summit Dog and Cat Hospital offers comprehensive surgical services ranging from
routine surgeries (such as spaying, neutering, and cesarean sections) to major orthopedic
and soft-tissue surgery performed by our board-certified surgeons. To ensure your pet's
safety, we perform age- appropriate pre-anesthetic blood testing prior to surgery and use
only the safest anesthetics. During surgery we continuously monitor your pet's heart rate, body temperature, and oxygen level. Our veterinarians are experts in pain management
and use the safest and most effective medications available.
Pharmacy
To ensure your pet's continued health, we offer a range of medications in our pharmacy.
If we do not carry the necessary medication, we will promptly call a pharmacy near your
home to arrange for them to fill the prescription
Dentistry
Bad breath, yellow teeth, red and swollen gums, and changes in eating habits can be signs
of periodontal disease. Bacteria in your pet's mouth can travel into the bloodstream and
organs, infecting the heart, kidneys, liver, and lungs. An oral exam is part of every
physical exam. Your pet's veterinarian will recommend professional dental cleanings
when needed. We use human-grade scaling and polishing instruments and can provide
fluoride treatments, antibiotics to treat infection, and pain medication when needed.
Other Services
In addition to the services described above, we offer artificial
insemination, fluid therapy (intravenous or subcutaneous), and pedicures.
